What is a
Gender Positive
Ally?
Being a Gender Positive Ally is free.
Being an ally can be scary at times - transphobic people target not only trans people, but also those who protect them.
Being an ally does not mean giving up your safety, and it doesn’t mean prioritizing transgender peoples' rights more than cisgender peoples' rights.
It means doing whatever is in your power to help the individual feel safe and able to access your services, and fully participate in and benefit from them, regardless of their gender identity.
It means having zero tolerance to bullying and abuse, protecting victims, and promoting gender equality and trans rights in schools, workplaces, and society.
To be a Gender Positive Ally an organisation must be:
Inclusive
Treat you with respect no matter your pronouns, gender expression, or how well you ‘pass’.

This means treating you as a human, deserving of kindness, and helping you feel comfortable.
Protective
If you are being harassed or feel threatened, they will provide you a refuge until the danger passes.

This might mean turning bullies away at their door, or giving you a quiet room to wait out danger.
Safe
Helping you feel comfortable, not judged, and welcome to participate without being defined by your gender.

This might mean letting you be yourself and respecting how you express
your gender, and letting that change from day to day.
Affirmative
They promote trans rights, and are proactive in encouraging authentic gender expression.

This might mean promoting gender equality, and making extra effort to show they mean what they promise.
